The Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova has won her first WTA title by defeating the Italian Camila Giorgi in Katowice. Like last year Camila was in the final, but once again she couldn’t finish the match in her favor. Earlier this week she declared that she never adjust her game whoever she plays. She hits the balls fast, flat, hard en deep to the baseline. But you rather play against the wall than against Anna Karolina. Probably the wall will return less balls than this Slovak athlete does! She won the first set with 6-4 and at that moment she starting to realize that she could win the match. To do so, she had to come back in the second set, because she was 3-1 behind. In fact she did and she broke Camila. Anna Karolina showed not only her tennis capacities but also her mental strength. A great champion! She was playing this tournament without her coach, but her mom was present. And yet she won her first WTA title. What does that learns you? ‘ Yes I have already teased him with that fact, maybe I should change my coach!’ she laughs. Earlier this week we have had an interview with her. Click here to read it. Please find below a photo impression of the final.
