In the Dutch media there is quite a lot of criticism about the quality of the Dutch tennis players. It’s a fact that in comparison with the times of the so called ‘golden generation’ (Richard Krajicek, Jan Siemerink, Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis) and their successors like Sjeng Schalken and Raemon Sluiter, the ranking of the today’s single male players is much lower. Today in the top 100 singles rankings there is no Dutch male tennis player, but Igor Sijsling, Thiemo de Bakker, Robin Haase and Jesse Huta Galung, have been there in the past and they work hard to come back. While a lot of discussions are going on about the reason for the lack of tournament winners, one could easily forget that in other areas there still is Dutch tennis success. The ladies FED Cup team has defeated Slovakia and has one more match to play on the road to the world group. And although the unbeatable Esther Vergeer has ended her tennis career, the ladies of the Dutch wheelchair team became world champion last year and the men ended as the vice world champions.
Jean-Julien Rojer is now the world’s number 10 in the Doubles Rankings. Last week he won with his partner Horia Tecău the ABN AMRO tournament in Rotterdam. Last year he was with Anna-Lena Groenefeld a Grand Slam winner in Paris and in 2013 he was the number 6 in the doubles rankings. Last week tennisphotoworld.com was one day in Rotterdam and we have made the attached photo gallery of the match of Jean Lulien and Horia against the very experienced Serbian Neman Zimonjic (still the number 3 of the world!) and Aisam-Ul-Haq Quereshi.
