Two years after retiring from the ATP Tour, Andy Roddick played for the first time at the AFAS Tennis Classics in Apeldoorn. And how he did that? He came, served and conquered the title. Before the match the American joked around telling that he did not train that much and that he would probably have a tough weekend on court. Still, with 42 aces he served and played his way to his victory. Sjeng Schalken did well in the final and made Roddick work for it. After showing the hard hitter every corner of the court, Andy Roddick sat down for a while shouting: ‘It’s not fair, those thin players like you against players like me. We have to work so much harder’, after he had thrown his racket ten meters in the air. Still, Schalken lost the first set with 6-3 and unfortunately for the Dutch player he had to recognize the higher level of the hard hitting American after loosing a long deuce game at 4-4 in the second set. “Since my retirement I have not played tennis at this level. It’s great”, tells Andy Roddick after the match. His first visit ever to Amsterdam with his wife, the American model Brooklyn Decker was so nice that the couple will stay a bit longer. After that, Andy Roddick will entertain the English crowd at the season-ending London Masters. Also the Chilian player Fernando Gonzalez who got himself a fourth place at the AFAS Tennis Classics will go to London. In his (one-set) match for the third and fourth place, he got beaten by the Swedish player Jonas Björkman with 7-6.
